Recent Bakes: What I’ve been up to, again.

It occurs to me, as I look at the jam-packed “Cake Pictures” folder on my phone, that I could be doing more Recent Bakes posts. A lot more, probably. Instead, I pop in every few months with highlights! Consider it quality over quantity.

I haven’t done one of these since November, so there’s been quite a few memorable bakes! Let’s start with ones I did at home.

This past December, the owners of my favorite tea shop in Atlanta messaged me asking if I’d make a cake for their wedding. Before I finish that story, I’m gonna pause to recommend the shop to other Atlanta folks: It is called Teamo, it is in Sandy Springs, and they make very good fruit teas. I recommend the red dragonfruit and passionfruit. It’s even in the same complex as Battle and Brew! Bonus: lovely owners! (Below, just for fun, is my first post about them from a year ago.)

As I was saying, they asked me for a wedding cake and I was very excited about it. The wedding seemed like it was going to be the cutest thing on earth. I sadly couldn’t stay to see it, but photos sent to me later confirm the cuteness levels were extremely high. It even took place at the rainbow crosswalk in Midtown! The best part for me personally was being sent a bunch of photos of the couple’s dogs as reference for the topper. Everyone please send me dog pictures, always. Thank you.

Cake details: Chiffon cake with mango and strawberry mousses, Italian meringue buttercream, and a whole lot of white chocolate roses!

Next up, a Christmas bake!

Ah, the mighty bûche. Rarely can I resist its call. This year, I wanted a less traditional color scheme: brown, white and pink! I wound up going with a chocolate ladyfinger sponge covered in a light layer of ganache and rolled up with raspberry mousse. Honestly, the fun part was making chocolate pine cones. They’re deceptively easy and look incredibly cool.

And the final home bake: a chocolate treat for my husband on Valentine’s Day!

Truthfully, I’m not really into Valentine’s Day. I do think, however, that it’s an exceptionally good excuse to make a fancy dessert for yourself or a loved one. This year it was a bavarian cream with cherries and chocolate cake, covered in a dark chocolate mirror glaze. It’s been a while since I whipped out the mirror glaze, but it’s always a good time!

On to a few cakes I’ve done at work in the past few months! I do periodically put up cakes from work on Instagram, so make sure to follow me there if you’d like more frequent cake photos in your feed!

First off: two big boys. These were both headed to the same event! I love how sticking to all white makes them complimentary even with very different designs.

Fun fact: my coworkers always seem to get a kick out of seeing any cake order larger than 4 tiers being made, because that’s the point where I have to start stacking and decorating from a stepladder. I’m a stumpy gal, but that won’t stop me from making some big ole cakes.

For a very recent bake… Easter, Easter, Easter! I loved this birthday cake and the accompanying smash cake. Once again, the cuteness levels are extremely high.

That’s it for now, but rest assured there will be more posts like this and some recipes are in the works. Stay tuned!
