Nyanuary: A chance to give, and a chance to receive (in a giveaway).

As you guys know, I’m hosting a cat-themed month called Nyanuary on Fandom Foodies. This is a month where we encourage you to take inspiration from your favorite famous kitties and get in the kitchen.

However, I want to do a little more than that. I’d like to draw attention to some good causes so we can help some actual, real-life kitty cats! As a result, I’m spotlighting 3 opportunities to help cats on 3 different continents. I’ll also be holding a small giveaway, which I’ll outline at the end of this post.

1. GOOD MEWS ANIMAL FOUNDATION

Good Mews Animal Foundation is a no-kill, cage free shelter in Atlanta. They are one of the absolute best shelters I have ever encountered in terms of animal care. In fact, two of my three kitties were adopted from Good Mews, and I bake for them whenever I can. They are incredible.

One of the wonderful programs they have is called HALO. The HALO program is funded entirely by donations and is dedicated to paying for the medical expenses of cats at the shelter that have chronic illnesses. This program makes hard-to-adopt cats adoptable, because Good Mews continues to pay the medical bills related to the cat’s chronic illness even after they’re adopted. How cool is that? Thanks to HALO, cats with special needs have a chance at forever homes they wouldn’t have had before.

Please check out Good Mews’s website to find out more and consider donating to them. Any amount helps, and you can even specify a donation to HALO so you’ll know exactly what your money is used for!

2. GEEKY ART SOLD TO BENEFIT DISABLED CATS

Alice, one of my readers, is a Parisian artist working in the animation industry as a storyboarder. She’s selling adorable cat-themed geeky art to raise money for Handi’Cats, a foundation that helps handicapped cats in France find shelter and medical care. She is donating all profits from these art pieces to Handi’Cats, so you get amazing geeky art and help some cats simultaneously! It’s win-win.

3. CATS IN VENEZUELA

You may know that Venezuela is in a massive crisis right now, with food for both people and animals being hard to come by. Yessika is a Venezuelan student that began to care for stray cats in her neighborhood during this incredibly difficult time. However, cat food is astronomically expensive in Venezuela and she simply cannot afford to feed these cats. That’s why she turned to Tumblr for help to see if she could get food shipped from the US.

Yessika is an individual and not an association, so I know this is a more unusual request. However, I’ve been in contact with her for months and she’s provided ample proof that donations have been used directly for food. She’s also shared photos of the food arriving and the cats feasting, which have been heartwarming.

You can either donate cat food directly to the shipping company she uses via Amazon, or you can donate to the cost of shipping via her Paypal donation link. Each shipment costs over $150 to transport, so the Paypal donations are especially important.

And, finally…

To celebrate Nyanuary, I’ll be giving away these two adorable cat washi tapes. One has cats on kind of a surreal clock pattern, and the other has cats frolicking with cherry blossoms.
